Avast marine Ato kit

Anyone use this directly from an rodi unit to the sump with a controller like apex or rk? I am having trouble visualizing how to set it up? Any help would be appreciated.

You mean just using the avast float, without the pressure switch?

The pressure switch is designed to control an outlet (or send a signal to a controller if you get that version) and therefore would need a pump in a reservoir of RODI to do what you're talking about.

I don't think it can control a RODI unit directly unless maybe you hooked up a pressure switch/valve that you could connect to your controller. Since you asked about apex or rk, I'm guessing you don't have either yet and are trying to figure out which one will work?

Please give us some more info on your specific equipment and your actual intentions.

So what I am trying to accomplish is this: my RODI unit is equipped with an an auto shut off valve and I wish to have the RODI unit top off directly to my sump. Due to limited space I don't want to have my RODI unit fill a reservoir then pump to my sump. I have no room for the reservoir. So I am thinking I can run the tubing from the RODI unit direct to the sump. Now I need to have some sort of float switch or solenoid connected to a controller to ensure the RODI unit only runs when it needs to. I will be using the apex controller I don't know if I need to use the controller I am just assuming I do. I am open to suggestions on how to set this up without a reservoir.

I hope this clarifies things as you can tell I am quite confused.

The auto shut off valve that comes with most rodi systems operate with pressure not electronically. These auto shut off valves are meant to work with a float valve that when closed creates back pressure on the system which in turn causes the auto shut off valve to "shut off" the waste water and the incoming water. What you can do is install the float valve in your sump.

Well that is simple I guess I am over thinking things with trying to use the controller if I don't have to.

Its not recommended to constantly make small amountd of water with the Rodi though which is what would occur if connected directly to the sump. If you evaporate say a gallon of water over a day your ro will continually work to replaxe small amount of water exhausting the cartridges faster.

You have no space at all for a 5g bucket or something?

It also makes worse water when you start and stop. I have my controller turn on a solenoid to refill my RO tank, about 20 gallons at a time (2 float switches), because when you first start, the first few cupfuls of water can have a slightly elevated TDS.

Though to be fair, on my old tank I just had a physical float attached to my RO unit, not knowing about the TDS issue. I also used that unit to make drinking water, so it was running more often.

Long story short, a topoff reservoir is worthwhile.

might want to try this. They make these in all different sizes and are great. I cut a hole in the bottom rear of mine & ran a tube from an aqualifter right through there & then siliconed it shut. works like a champ.

I use the same container that Ryan linked. I notched out the lock on the lid thought instead, and made an opening for my ATO pump power cord and tubing.

I fill mine manually a couple times a week so being able to open and seal close the lid easily was why I did it that way.

I have some room on the side of the tank but need to make it look nice to keep peace with the wife
