it was disappointing to see that a trained marine would send a barely armed force up against superior firepower like that.

I agree...i rationalized and said - well he is a grunt and maybe he thinks "strategy" is another way of saying - send more troops in. I said to my wife -even the ancient japanese during the Sengoku Era (think the int'l movie Ran or the more recent Last Samurai flick) knew that riding your cavalry into a thicket of muskets (let alone high powered machine guns) was pure suicide.

i didn't see a racial message really, only that "humans are uncaring, destructive buttheads"  :-\

Was there supposed to be a racial message....i thought the story was supposed to essentially be a futuristic settlers vs. native americans...shameful greed over morality message.

Oh...and I thought it was great.....I was thinking going in that it would be a great special effects movie...and IMO it lived up to the hype in that regards.
