Bad Luck, Frustration, etc

Came home earlier and noticed that my tank lost about 10g of water. The damn Coralife skimmer sucked out all the water and overflowed the waste container. My laminate floor is not good, still trying to clean up. All the water was absorbed / evaporated, truly sucks.

Just needed to vent. Thanks

Spend $40 on the skimmer auto shutoff when waste collector is full. Reef octopus has them. One of the best investments I made in the hobby.

My old setup had a sump and all that. Now I have a smaller tank with HOB skimmer can still have an auto shutoff?

As long as there is room in the collection cup to run a float valve

I have a hose from collection cup that goes to a 5g bucket. So should be able to do this.

Just make sure the switch is in a place that won't drain to much is skimmer goes nuts.

Take a look at the Davy Jones locker from Avast. I have them on all our systems. You would just plug your skimmer power cord into the avast plug and then into he wall. Once the locker's air sensor is blocked it will kill the power to your skimmer until you empty it.

The davy jones locker or reef octopus ones are good and will resolve this issue.

Instead of the 5g bucket you'd use this http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/octopus-waste-collectors and it'd automatically cut power to skimmer once filled.

I am such a dope. Today I realized that it's was all my fault for the flood. I adjusted the skimmer the wrong way.....damn that hurts.
