I thought there was a sticky here
Paul or anyone can you point me right direction where I can find the info on baking soda and the driveway heat
Thanks everyone
Dan, Earl's got the link. If you have any questions, please post. One error in that link is the very first post where I state, "One last point; if you have high pH, you don’t need to cook the baking soda. Simply mix 2 ¼ cups baking soda to one gallon of RO/DI water." This is not true, it should be 1 1/8 to 1 1/4 cups baking soda per gallon. Baking soda is not as soluble at soda ash (cooked baking soda.) Happy mixing!
The instructions for baking the baking soda calls for baking it at 300 degrees for one hour, but it will dissolve much better if you increase the temp to 400 and bake for 1 1/2 hours, which will have no ill affect on the end product(soda ash). I believe that if you buy the soda ash from BRS during one of its sales, i.e. Black Friday, Christmas, etc., although it is still more expensive than using the DIY, there's not a big cost difference if you add something for the fuel you use to heat the oven. The soda ash from BRS will also dissolve completely, much like the CaCl. I used to buy enough for a full year during one of these sales since there's an additional savings, buying in bulk.
