Bare bottom aka BB is the best :)

I removed sand a few months ago and totally love it. The bottom is now totally covered with coraline and the Kole Tang keep it free of algae/diatom. It's personal preference aesthetically but it's definitely easier to maintain. Only thing is not able to keep some of the sand dwelling fish.

Same here only took acouple weeks and my bottom glass has coraline all over the place. There was a couple thing that I was thinking of getting that need sand but that's ok because I much rather have BB maybe I just need another tank :)

I was thinking to go BB for my new setup but my wify dose not like it so 2 inches of Caribsea Aragonite special grade reef floor sand will be again. ....

When you guys pulled your sand out, did you do it all at once, or over time? Any adverse affects if pulled out all at once?

Justin I did mine every time I did a water change which is every Sunday I would think if the tank is fairly new probably not a big deal to pull it all but if it's been up for awhile take it slow

Ok, I was thinking of doing that, pulling some weekly. My tanks going on almost a year now so its not as new. But its also a very shallow bed, 1" max, which i keep super clean, so I'm not sure if pulling it at once will really do anything drastic. Guess its better to be safe than sorry.

When I got hit my velvet outbreak I had to pull all my rock to get the remaining fish out so I just removed all of the sand at the same time. It made a mess of the tank. I'd just do it over a few water changes. If your rock is sitting on top of the sand, just watch out for it shifting.
