I went to Bermuda for a week with my wife, although we rented a 'bungalow' that was owned by a private couple. This is a great route if you a looking for a vacation with a lean budget. People often have rental properties that are adjoined to their homes to keep costs down. The island is small, so a bad ride or bus ride can take you to the beaches. I acknowledge this is clearly a different experience then the 9 beaches resort would offer though! ($75-$100 pe night versus $200 or so)
do you have any pictures or contact info for the place you stayed. i am just not too keen at staying at a resort with hundreds of people. i like the idea of a little privacy and seclusion.
Patriot 76 - Let me see what I can find. I think I made a paper folder of the info. and their contat info. The place was nice and very clean. We are of the mentality that such a small amount of time is spent in the accommodations, that we were just happy to experience the island and the outrageous beaches. The restaurants are excellent in general, especially near the larger town nearby the main beaches.
This makes me wonder of better ways to research private accomodations like this. I wonder if local real estate place could help my means of web/email. The main resorts will tend to be pricey.
Malulu - The flight's to Bermuda are probably very reasonable versus most other islands. This is only about 500 miles of North Carolina. We flew out of Newark and did ok, although you might save if you can swing going from NYC
We should probably take this over the open water forum, since it is offtopic
I checked and unfortunately did not have any contact info. file. This is a bummer as I can see us going back to Bermuda someday. You can find very easy snorkling opportunities with impressive wildlife if you do some research. Good luck and if you go I think you won't regret it, especially if you are looking for nice restaurants and good snorkling. Many people have done it for a long weekend.
yeah it is a lot of money, thats why we are planning on leaving the kids home! it would be our first vacation without kids since our honeymoon. but that is also the reason we are only able to go for three nights, cannot burden the family with our two kids any longer then a few days.
My wife and I went to Bermuda .. wow it was two years ago already. We stayed in in St George in B&B was super nice and less expensive then most of the hotels. Also we flew out of Philly as it was cheaper too. For sure check flying there because it can be cheaper by couple hundred bucks.
We did some snorkling (wife was pregnant so no scuba) went out to see some wrecks great time.
I heard the cottages had some early problems with heat I would check it out. We saw them from the snorkel boat which was an excellent trip if you go. Jessie James Cruises -- http://www.jessiejames.bm/
Took my family there via cruise ship. Very nice. We did the taxi and death bus ride to beaches and caves. We even walked to one of the beaches. The snorkeling was cool saw many nice fish. I reccommend bringing your own as the price of that stuff is outrageous there.
when you go a great restaraunt is Ascots. The chef's coice is cool. It is a 3 or 4 course meal and all you do is give them your likes and dislikes in food and they make something up for you.
It is a fun experience and a good surprise during each cours.
They have cruises out of Bayonne NJ I think they are 4-5 days
also dont rent a moped streets are so small and people get killed everyday,
Snorkeling is top notch!
