Best sand to get

Hey everyone. Its looking like im going to be moving in the very near future so ill be moving and resetting up my tank. Im going to buy new sand to avoid a major cycle. I was wondering what you guys preferred? I will have. Very shallow sandbed that is just for looks, maybe 1 inch. Tank is a 40b as you know and sps dominated.

Ever since using it in my 90 my sand searches begin and end with Tropic Eden Reef Flakes. Anyone who has used them will surly echo my preferance. Biggest downfall is that they are only available from Premium Aquatics and they are sometimes backordered. So if you decide to go with them I would order ASAP. With two MP-40s going this sand has not moved at all.

If your up to the ride I have a little bit saved up that you could check out to see how you like the look and feel.

Premium Aquatics also sells little sample bags of Tropic Eden. that way you can see and touch them all before making a decision.

Thats what I was looking for thanks guys. How much of the tropic would I need for a shallow bed in my 40

I would say 1, but if you get it go with 2 just in case. I used 2 full bags in my 90 and got about 1.5"-2" give or take. Yes they do sell a sample pack that will let you see all four types they carry. It only costs a few bucks and came pretty quick when I ordered it. I've seen many that mix the reef flakes and mini reef flakes to give a grain size similar to Fiji Pink. I was gonna do the same but they didn't have mini when I ordered.

I've used Agra-Alive Fiji Pink sand in all my tanks, before going to bare bottom.

Last PA group buy, a ton of people ordered Tropic Eden Reef Flakes and Mini Flakes. It seems to be a popular choice also.

We have used fiji pink in all of our tanks and have been very happy with it.

I remember a "rule of thumb" that was one pound, per gallon, per inch. So, a 40 gal. tank would require about 40 lbs. to get a 1" deep bed.

I was thinking about the fiji pink also. I guess its between that and the reef flakes then. Thanks Jim thats what I have heard also. Just wanted a second opinion

I used Fiji Pink in my old nano and like it also. If I couldn't get the RF thats the way I would go.

It's tough to determine how much. As I said I used 2 bags which is 60 Lbs. That gave me 1.5"-2" throughout. But that is with a good amount of the bottom taken by rock. With a nice open bottom the coverage would be thinner. Thats why I suggested 2 bags.

I decided on a 30lb bag of mini flakes and a 20lb of live regular flakes. I know the live part is bs but the "dead" sand is sold out and I dont need 60lb anyway. I think this will give me a nice mix. Thanks for all the help guys. Ill post up pics after the move
