I am trying to help clean up my brother's 220. We almost have his cyano under control, but when you look through the tank which is viewable all 4 sides, he has millions of tiny hair like looking fibers floating around. we di have a filter sock in the sump, but it will not eliminate the fibers.

Does anybody have a big canister filter or diatom filter to lend me to try polishing the water in his tank. I put my old HOT magnum 250 gph filter in there and the tank just laughs at it. I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the input Phil, But we tried down to 75 or 50 micron(can't remember which one). It is not pet hair, I do believe it is just remnants of the long strands of cyano that are being beaten and chopped up. It is kind of weird looking at it. I think it really needs a good polishing.

25 micron would catch all that.. I would assume you are using the "mesh type" filters and not the sock style

Yes, that is what we've tried. I do not have a 25 or I would try. One big problem though is that the water that he is pushing along with the drop to the basement is pulverizing anything he catches. This is why I want to try cleaning the tank first at this point and see where it goes from there.

I have a vortech xl diatom filter that you are more than welcome to use. Located in north nj not really sure where you guys are at. Only thing is your going to need diatomaceous earth to put in the filter I just ran out of it. The filter works great i use it when i do water changes, i tend to stir up some crap when im sucking out the water and i use it to filter all that out. Makes the tank like crystal clear in no time. Let me know =D
