I saw a video with Mike Paletta doing just that. He was slowly acclimating some fresh water Mollies to saltwater cause said they eat the algae off the corals and not harming the corals.
I've done it in the past with lunar mollies. You can use any molly. Not sure where you are at but JB fish on the pike in williamstown has a bunch in a tank already acclimated. I was thinking of grabbing a few just to see if they would help with some HA I have.
I have a black Molly in my tank. I acclimated it over about 5-6 hours. He picks at the algae but nothing major. If you have hair algae peroxide dosing works wonders. I lost my SPS doing it so be prepared for that.
I used Sailfin mollies as they did a better job at eating the algae. They actually bred in my tank with no issues. The problem was the babies were devoured and the other fish realized where they came from and attacked the females which died. The smaller mollies are subject to being picked in IMO.
