bleach(ing) candy cane, blasto with recission

Hi all,

I bought a candy cane frag from OG in April with two heads. It now has four, and I was really excited about how well it was doing, but about three weeks ago our air conditioning broke... and the little 20G nano spiked in temp. I came back from being away to find that the tank was 86 degrees F. The lights were not on that day/night, and we did not run them for the 5 days it took to get the ac fixed for very long, turning them off when the tank reached 82 F.

One of the heads of the candy cane bleached. There are little browish stripes on it now, and it is still "connected" with its clone head. Any advice on anything I can do to speed its recovery?

On a related note, the blasto has not bleached but has lost an entire head of flesh. The colors on the other two heads are good, but I am not sure what to do to help it recover.

Thanks everyone!

try to keep the temp as stable as possible. Large daily fluctuations in temp are very stressful. Feed the corals mysis or other meaty foods and just wait.

Thank you for the response, with the ac being fixed we are back to our stable temps over the past two weeks and nothing has gotten worse. We had heard adding some phyto with bleached out corals can help. We were just wondering if there was any other methods out there.

I would be careful if you decide to dose phyto. It's easy to overdose espescially in a smaller tank. I've always had good success with the brand P.E. Mysis. It's a large(for a shrimp LOL)and easy to target feed and everthing I've kept would eat it.

Thank you for the PE recomendation.
We picked up the PE on Tuesday, so far we have fed it twice (Rod's two times, PE slated again for the third time tonight) and the Blasto has not lost any more flesh. No real increase in flesh yet, I'd imagine that will take time and pristine water.
The candycane's brown stripes are slowly spreading. . . I have my fingers crossed that the bleached head will recover.
