I started practicing my macro photography today.. This is the only one that I liked.. I need brighter lighting I think. At low ISO's the fish move to fast, and at high ISO's its way too grainy. I'll play more later, let me know what you think.
that's a nice shot Bill, what kind of camera are you using? Have you played with the flash at all? I've used my flash at times when I needed light, and depending on the complexity of the shot, they usually come out OK.
what setting on the camera did you use? (shutter speed, aperture, etc)
I haven't used the flash lately, I just picture it having like a mirror effect on the glass, but I suppose if you're close enough, that won't happen?
But I have a Canon Digital Rebel, the original, not the newer one.
And I had the aperture at 5.6 if I remember correctly.. I don't remember exactly what shutter speed I had it at. I can get my memory card later and post the details.
Excellent, I'll defintiely play more tomorrow after work. I'm moving my reef from a 20L to a 46 Bow.. so I want to get a lot of good pictures before/during/after the move, so I'll start using the flash, I imagine it will help tremendously..
Do you use the built in flash, or an external attached flash? I have both, so I'll give them both a shot tomorrow evening.
Bill, if you're smack up against the glass, you won't get the reflection. Also make sure you are completely FLAT up against the glass, as an angle at that short of a distance will refract your pictures and make it blurry. You can angle a shot to bounce off the flash if you are at least a foot or two away from the glass.
I use the external flash, I keep the ISO at 200, and the lowest settings on the aperture is what I use.
To clarify - i do not have an expensive macro len camera...
am thinking to buy one in the near future... I will then ask you all for Macro Advise... ;D
i use my Canon S40 with a very slightly angle to take pictures, if i have the camera against the glass, it become bury/too-close...
