i noticed liveaquaria suggests feeding brine shrimp to the goniopora.
does this mean you would just blast the coral with a turkey baster? also i'm curious why they recommend brine over mysis considering the nutritional value.
Perhaps baby brine shrimp? That would be the equivalent of zooplankton, since bbs eats phytoplankton.
It's weird but for a long time I also said brine shrimp is not suitable meal - but i'm wondering if that is more on the frozen stuff vs the live stuff.
Anyways baby brine is very nutritious and great for larvae fish. I would imagine it would be equally ok for corals. Adult brine shrimp have more protein (vs the fat from the yolk in baby brine).
But raising bbs is a pain if you ask me. I would imagine corals could get by on an alternative like cyclopeeze. But if they need phyto - then something smaller.
Ive kept them alive and never feed them something that big, when I target fed them I used a coke bottle cut it in half and made sort of a funnel out of it. I would wover it and I would feed it a mix of rotifers cyclopeeze and phyto. I am now keeping a red one alive simply by brodcast feeding the tank. I would not reccomend doing this for you but it has benn working for me. the key to them is placement and transportation.be careful not to hurt the coral as they are not good at healing. place it in an are where it gets very minimal water flow. I keep mine on my sand bed. hope it works out for you..
I have fed our 30g which houses our goni (on the sand bed) with live baby brine on many occasions. I feed with a turkey baster with frozen food, and a very fine mesh net for live baby brine; it is possible he eats the baby brine, but I've never seen any reaction to the baby brine- the clowns on the other hand will swim into the net to get the baby brine. We do dose the tank with both live phyto and oyster eggs in very small amounts.

This is an interesting point. Many years ago, I knew a FW angelfish breeder. His goal was to get the fry up to selling size as fast as possible. To do this, he would first feed the fry dry food. A bit later, he would feed live brine shrimp. Even though the fish were full, they would gorge on the live shrimp. This feeding method would be repeated several times a day. The growth rate was very fast.
