Brown Algae, Diatom Algae?

well, here goes nothing.. I just dosed chemiclean.. 1 scoop per 10 gallons.
70gallon tank + 40gallon sump.. sump isnt full the whole way. I dosed 6 scoops t be safe. Only read bad about over dosing.

I've got 2 airstones going. One is battery operated & it's loud lol. Feels like hurricane sandy all over again

You could also use the skimmer as an aerator also. Just turn it up so that it overflows and just let it drain back. You will get far mor aeration through that then the air stones.

it's been a little over 36hrs since I did the treatment. I don't really see much of a difference. My sand bed is still covered. Maybe it is dino's?

try dosing MB7, that is what I will be doing the following week. MB7 will build up your tank's good bacteria to combat that cyano. keep siphoning what you can, siphoning into a filter sock so you don't have to do constant water changes. do another 3 day black out and try to siphon out all that dead cyano, do heavy water changes and see if that helps. cyano sucks bro, i am battling it myself.

Here is another option and its a little more costly but its very effective.....zerovit coral snow mixed with zeo-bak. Sunny has used this as well and it works. Here's the info from the product descrition

Coral Snow neutralizes undesirable acids and is a solution against e.g. slime algae and cyano bacteria. Therefore take Corals Snow and add 1 drop of ZEObak per 100L/25 gallons tank water each 2nd day.

It worked great and I use it once a month on my water storage tank as well.

It amazes me how fast it comes back out as soon as the lights go on. I cut the hours real short today.. lights go back on and within 15mins it starts to spread like crazy again. I don't think it's cyano because of dosed the chemiclean. Really really aggravating !

I wouldnt rule out cyano just because chemiclean didnt work. Not all solutions work all of the time.

I ordered the smaller bottle ecobak & coral snow from bulkreefsupply today. Got some alk, calcium, mg tests also coming.
