Bulb change question

Right now I have 2 400 watt 14k metal halides. I am looking to replace them with new bulbs as I do not know the age of these bulbs. Should I replace them both at the same time or 1 at a time. ALSO i WANT TO GO TO A 20K BULB WHAT EFFECT WILL THIS HAVE ON THE COLOR OF THE TANK IF ANY?

I would change 1 bulb a week so the corals will get used to the new intensity.OR.
Change out both and put screening on top of the tank to block out some of the light. Remove a layer (if using more then 1)a week.
Depending on the bulb brand, the 20K will be only a little more blue.
