Can anyone reccomend a miter saw?

Hey Guys,

Since it seems like a lot of people around here also enjoy wood working I figured I would ask. Does anyone has a reccomendation for a sliding miter saw around $200. I will be using it around the house on molding, quarter round etc. so I would consider it light use. I have been looking around and I think I narrowed it down to the following:

Either one fits the bill. I would like to see a taller fence so crown could be cut....but that's easily fixed by adding a piece of scrap plywood.

Thanks Paul, I just hate buying junk that only lasts a few jobs. I want decent quality without breaking the bank.

Paul, do you see a winner between the two?

Get the first one. The second one doesn't slide. So you really limit the width of the board you can cut with the second one. You would not be able to cut a 2x8 with the second one. The first one you could lay it down flat amd be able to cut it.

Good point Paul. I have a smaller craftsman chopsaw that I have had for about 5 years with a lot of use. No issues with it at all.

The blade is important get a good one and make sure you square it up. The tools is the smallest part in woodworking. The person behind the machine is what makes the difference. Tools just make something's easier.

Good choice. I do like the slide option with this saw. I just wish my chop saw was 200 bucks! I spent more on the stand then that.

That looks like a great compressor ^^^^^
I would try to stay away from oil-less compressors I'm sure a lot of people are going to disagree with me on that but I have bought and been through my far share of compressors and the diaphram go all the time

Joe really for $130 Home Depot sells a husky 8gal compressor that is great for trim really anything and can be moved around house easily

I know guys I know husky but really it's not a bad compressor for the price if your on a buget

What saw do you use Paul?

This little stand in wheels was my weekend project. I have the Dewalt stand for the saw that I love to use but it's too big for inside my tiny little basement. I put my table saw on locking wheels and I just finished this and out it in wheel so I can make the most of the space. The only thing I don't like about this saw us how heavy it is and having to lug it up the basement steps. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1425788626.259751.jpg

Matt, I have a 12 inch Dewalt compound with the stand. It came with the laser, but I didn't like it, and removed it.






For the typical homeowner, I wouldn't recommend this saw....it's contractor quality......over kill......and I'm sick (Tim the Toolman sick).....and price, we won't talk about that. So if my wife asks, I paid less than 200! Similar to the Ecotech MP40's I have, that cost about $50!!!

Mine is the 10". I was thinking of adding the laser but all the reviews I read said how horrible it was. I have also broken the plastic clips that holds the saw to the stand. The ones on the bottom of the back of the yellow bracket. They aren't made very well.

Matt, I'm not sure if it's because I'm old school, but I never liked the laser. I've always just eyed it up and nudge cut to check that I'm aligned and then cut. Do the same with my radial arm saw.


Also, never had a problem with the release handles...to remove the saw from the stand. And I say that realizing that I move this saw very frequently. I do a fair amount of molding work for neighbors. And I will agree that this thing is a beast to move.

Now that's a saw! Lol. You guys are giving me saw envy, they put my 8" craftsman to shame. And I totally agree about the laser mine had it and I think I have used it once in the 5 years I've had it.

I also like DeWalt and most of my power tools are DeWalt. I used to do a lot of woodwork but not so much any more. If anyone wants this real cheap, let me know. I have a much smaller one and rarely use this one any more and I need the space.
It's on the table like it shows. I love the thing and made a lot of cool stuff including much of my furniture. Along with my cut saw of course.
