can you use pvc glue for filter pipes

Yes you can use pvc glue, just make sure its dry before running water, which should only be a few minutes since pvc glue dries rather quickly

Well it doesn't kill anything but I ran the water an hour after I glued some pieces and I remember some of the fish freaking out a bit. Funny thing is, no coral complained.

As was pointed out to me when I first asked the question, PVC primer and cement are used in potable applications so it must be safe. I've used it many times, quite often just about immediately after gluing pieces together. I've never seen the slightest adverse reaction.

PVC is used for drainage. Not really potable water. Copper is used for that (now flex tube is being used as well which doesn't require glue or primer) and we all know how horrible high copper levels are in our reef tanks.

So you're saying PVC is NEVER used in potable applications? I think you may want to check your facts.

I'm pretty sure PVC isn't. I may be wrong, but I've been in many homes and never saw plumbers running PVC for potable water. I've seen copper and pex. Cpvc as well but that uses a special glue and primer. Pex uses special fittings to adapt from it to copper. PVC can be used in cold only applications but isn't standard practice here in jersey.
