Cant get my TDS meter to work.

I just got my HM duel inline tds monitor (model DM-1) and I can't get it to work. It is constantly on and it is reading 000 in and 000 out. I even tried to move the calibrator a little just to see if I can get it to get anything and no good. I took it apart and reinstalled and nothing. Then I did the old standby of taking the batteries out and putting them in and still nothing. Any other suggestions as to what I can do?

I have 0 in and out after like a minute of running, as soon as you turn it on check the in. Mine creeps up then goes to zero so if your not paying attention you could miss it. Maybe?

Its been hooked up since noonish and still reads 0 in and out.

I assume it is hooked into the tubing with tees? Try turning the tee to get air bubbles out.

Tried it. Even gave it a little tap. Still nada.

Did you turn the water on? Doh!

Yeah. It's on.

It also won't turn off.

So I figured I'd give this one more shot and took the batteries out to reset it again and low and behold the batteries were put in backwards.

Now its reading 86 in 2 out. Is this good?

They would be "normal" numbers assuming 86 is your tap water TDS (actually fairly low), and 2 is coming out of your RO. Now if you also have DI, 2 would not be acceptable....should be zero.

The 2 is before it hits the DI. Maybe one day I'll hook it up to that just to see.

I would suggest you set up your two sensors this way....one coming out of the RO, the other coming out on the DI. This way you'll know when your membrane goes and you'll know when your DI is shot.

That's a great suggestion Paul. Im going to change my config to that.. my in also reads 86.

This is the best way to hook it up. I also have a bypass valve before my DI. I set it to bypass until the TDS drops so I don't exhaust my DI with the higher TDS that comes out of the membrane when you first start up. You may want to invest in a flush kit to, it will extend the life of your membrane.
