Catching fish

I recently learned a “new trick” and am so impressed by just how well it works that I felt I had to share. It works so well and it’s so simple that I am confident that many of you will think duh. No kidding how else would you do it. To be clear... although I am new to reefing. I have kept fresh water fish for 40 years. And in all that time I have grabbed a net and chased the fish around until I caught it. Sometimes not until the fish got exhausted and simply gave up. That is how I have seen it done everywhere I go. I am confident that I have stressed a thousand fish and have always felt terrible. Sooo a few weeks ago I was at absolutely fish and I saw a member of there staff catching fish with a large clear tub. Like a rectangular dish used to keep leftovers. And he simply scooped the fish up like it was trained. No chasing, no stress. Naturally I asked about it and he said it’s like they don’t see it. Plus being fairly deep and wide they don’t seem to realize they aren’t just in a small tank. So I decided to give it a whirl and between buying new fish, quarantining fish and transferring them to different tanks. I have had a 100 percent catch rate. It’s amazing. No fins or Gills getting hung up in netting. No air time during the transfer. Additionally, The fish just enter there new tank like they always lived there. They don’t run and hide. The one additional thing that does help is having a tiny net in your other hand to simply steer them to the capture container. I apologize if I am the last man on earth to realize I have been doing it wrong my whole life. But the way I see it. If it helps just one more fish to be transferred stress free it’s worth sharing.

I worked at a Petco for a while and caught fish like this. People were always so impressed at how easy it was. Definitely better than chasing with nets.

I still can’t believe I nether saw or figured it out my self after all these years.

Matt, how I transferred all my fish. Had my wife hold a big net while I used a small storage container.
Clown was only one that swam in the net all by itself.
Erased his under the sand, pain to find it.

started doing this water seeing a few stores catch them that way.
just wish my container was clearer.
