Cleaner magnets

Just wondering what kind of cleaning magnets people have and if they like them. I have the large magfloat and think it's good. Was wondering if anyone has those wood ones like the tiger shark or any of those, are they better than a magfloat? I don't see how one cleaner can really be better than another. But, I don't have one so I don't know.

Slap on one of RichT’s Reef Gadgets on your Magfloat, and there is nothing better. I believe you can now purchase Reef Gadgets at some local LFS…don’t quote me, but I think AO and TB Aquatics now carry this cleaning wonders.

FYI, I use Magfloats on my tanks.

I bought one of the algae scrapers form oceansmotions that attaches to a mag float. It works really good on getting the tough stuff off.

I do not have direct experience with the other cleaners.

I can say, the strength of the magnet plays a big factor in the usefulness of the scraper.

I imagine ease in which the scraper glides across the tank is a factor.

Definitely recommend reef gadget or something similar to make your life easier.

I guess I'm going to have to make some more. There probably getting pretty rare by now.

I have the Piranha Float Cleaning Magnet. It was expensive and I don't think it is any better than the others. They claim a stronger magnet, but I can't see the difference. Any way, it has a nice wood on it!

Are any magnet cleaners safe for acrylic?

They should say acrylic safe on them, or for acrylic. Be sure you don't get any sand between them with your acrylic tank, it scratches much easier than glass. Prob a good idea to take them out between cleanings

With Mag-Floats, the ones for glass are a light grey/tan while the ones for acrylic are a light blue/green.

Quick story....they don't all float.  I pickep up a Marina glass cleaner and used it and when finished, pulled the two apart expecting the part in the tank to float.  It sank like a rock and knocked over some stuff.

My favorite magnet is the Magnavore. I brought this company to MACNA about 10 years ago and they are still going strong. They build a quality product that works. There are also special pads for using the magnets in acrylic tanks. Hands down the magnet I have ever used!!!!
