@Jeremy Brito i like it in concept, but from a logistical standpoint it could be very tough. now, a community wide frag tank would be very cool. i remember reading through a thread on R2R where there was a group that had a community tank but i can't find it. i think this is definitely a cool concept for a group of us to work on in the future:)

found the thread on R2R for anyone who's interested in getting an idea of how another group handled it. Club Coral Fragbank

a community tank is definitely inline with the club mission... but there is so much that we need to do before we can get to this..... the club's foundation needs to be re-built, from the ground up..
we need to strengthen our Financial Base (paid members and vendors),
we need to clean up a lot of years of admin neglect

All points i will be elaborating on in the coming weeks.....

No one was being negative...they were just giving you their opinions. Is that not why you started this thread? Some of us have been around since the last tanks we set up and they were always logistical failures. We gave our opinions. Again, isn't that what you want....our opinions?

Clearly the both of us are missing very Diffrent parts of this conversation its not about the opinions and its not even about putting,up a club sponsored tank at this point .. It was the whole lets feel out some ideas and learn from mistakes and try to figure out what didn't work last time so in,the future regardless of what we do we dont make those mistakes again... Instead of doing any of that thw focus of this conversation was why does this guy keeping asking about a tank... Except I said it nicer

I did not that bring that up as it's not definite this will be done.
But since you did:
1) Are the members going to be compensated for this, esp. if its a large system?
2 What about misfortune circumstances causing the tank(s) to crash, weather? Do they have to replace frags at their cost? Will the club have a backup site or use of generators?
3 Who will supply the frag equipment to the member(s)?

I am sure I missed stuff.

I been trying to stay on top of this thread but due to everything going on right now it was hard. I finally have a second to breath and try and respond.

First - @Jeremy Brito thanks for bring up an idea that the club can discuss on if it be something we can do or not

Second - This is not gear at any one person or even persons but in general. I been seeing this a lot lately and feel it should be address. We as members need to stop bickering among each others. Yes there are going to be discussions and strong feelings one way or another. First most we need to respect each others views and thoughts and that goes for both sides of the discussing. Just know each side will present their side and it will go bath and forth like a tennis match. The only thing is it needs to say civil and don't take it/make it personal.

Third - I have thought about this off and on since day one with the club. I looked at old threads and saw the club sponsor tank and their issues. I thought could it be something we could look at again? I then try to look at all angels (pros and cons) and try and weight them. The only thing that keeps coming back is doing something like this

Contact a place, like a high school, college, doctor office, etc... that might be doing constructions. Pitch them an idea of putting a reef tank up. In the pitch you give an idea of what it will look like, how much it would cost, what the club wants out of it, etc.. In the pitch you include a company (which you already talk with) that will provide them an agreement to take care of the tank with a service agreement (again cost there). You could get lucky (mainly with a high school and/or college) the place might have staff that can take lead on it. For example science program, or a college with an animal lab/department. Another pro about a college is they might have a club that we can work with and then leave the main maintenance to the club.

Forth - A 'take one/put one' tank sounds great but there a lot to consider. Cost, upkeep, location, etc...

Schools didn't work out. We setup or donated stuff to a Newark school. The teacher had to take care of the tank herself. Schools don't allow outsiders inside. The teacher had to setup and break down the tank a few times a year on holidays and summer-spring break.
