Bummer guys.
Wasn't it Reeflux that popped on Billy?
Are you contacting the company?

Damn! That sucks!!

I have some Green, Orange and Purple cap if you want it. Let me know. If you look on the bright side (am I saying that?!) I guess that's not a terrible loss considering the complete overhaul.

I stand (sit :)) corrected... It was a 400w MH that popped (not 250... that's better, right?! UGH). Single ended, Reeflux, and yes the same bulb that popped on Billy. It is (remotely) possible that when I burned my arm on the bulb I compromised its integrity. Maybe it started to break then? I don't know for sure.

Thanks, Brian. I'll keep you posted. I'm still hopefully that the corals will rebound. They still show some color although they've browned out pretty badly. The green cap is still bright green under the shades. I'm contemplating keeping the lights off over that section again tomorrow just to let them heal some more before we light 'em back up again.

sorry to hear that Phyl and John , here to if you need orange and purple cap lmk i can help you with some , i hope the corals would rebound keep us posted in the outcome .

John and Phyl, sorry to hear about the casualties. Your tank was beautiful can't believe you did this. The new look is great also. Hope your corals recover

Nice tank, fish('specially the sohal) great looking corals, the lobo's look terrific! Besta luck John and Phyl, keep the pics coming!!

Sorry to hear of your light troubles and its effects on your critters.

I see others have offered caps, I have a nice blue tip stag if yours does not pull through. I had the Dr Mac teal as well , but it didn't establish and I lost it.

Anyway you're welcome to a piece of the blue tip if you need it.

Hope it all works out for you guys. :-\

Thanks, everyone. I'm hoping it will all pull through. I was looking at it with the night sea this morning and I can still see a hint of flouresence through the bleak brown. I guess the next few days will tell. The skin will either peel off... or not! I'm hoping for the latter!

Based on your problem with the lighting this will probably not help unless you get a break out of AEFW (God Forbid!!) because of the corals being a a weakened state, but I will offer it anyway, I do have a 8 ounce bag of Levamosole waiting to donate to the club - LMK if you need it (or anyone else for that matter) right away - it is in the freezer to keep it fresh (powdered) - I need to get it to you and trade for the Hach anyway

I also find that adding about 1.5 times the recommended doseage of Lugol's helps with damaged or shocked (due to falling, other corals stinging, sudden water parameter changes, light changes etc..) corals - in the tank and a separate bath first with 40 drops of Lugols per gallon (for the bath TM Pro Coral Cure also works) - raising the Iodine levels in the reef aquarium helps both hard and soft corals heal better from injury - based on my experience - this assumes a low or average level of iodine now - if you added recently (over the last 14 days) or are not sure then go with the standard dose of 1 drop per 25 gallons (to be safe)), and watch the corals, typically they will expand if LPS or Soft, or extend polyps if SPS. If you monitor your iodine levels or if you haven't added iodine in the last 2 to 3 weeks - go with 5 to 6 drops per 100 gallons- continue skimming.

Keep an eye out on all livestock when using iodine, but it is depleted rather quickly by skimming, coral absorption and water changes. Also be careful if you are also using ozone (then stay with standard dose) as it does react with iodine.

I have actually stopped RTNing with this method of iodine baths / combined with adding Lugol's every 2 weeks at recommended dosage

Excellent information, Chris. We do need to meet up to transfer the hach, I was completely overwhelmed by it, to say the least. I should have sent it home with MikeM on Superbowl Sunday. I'll see him at the meeting, if I don't see you by then. We have a hectic few weeks coming up though.

Thanks again for the thoughts.

Here's a picture of the Hefflo. The good news is polyps are still out on it, in spite of the NASTY brown color it has turned.

Progress report:

The Efflo is recovering its coloring very nicely. The greenish hue is back under night sea. Each day the brown is less and less noticable. The caps are going to take a bit longer to recolor, by the seems of things. They all have polyps out, in spite of the brown out and have held their skin (brown though it might be). The stag is holding on and has polyps out on the bottom and sides. Not sure of the top yet, but hopefully it will come back. I still have some hope. I can't believe they look so good for as bad as it all seemed when it happened.

Most recent Macro shots are here. :)

I'll take another FTS after I drag up the rest of the corals that belong in the tank. Maybe I'll do some more of that on Friday night. What a process that is! We carried them down in totes, but I didn't like the way they sloshed around, so I brought them back up one at a time. Yikes! What a chore that was.

The efflo has recovered its coloring in all but one small spot that is still holding onto a bit of brown. The green cap is flouresing very nicely under night sea and even under regular lighting is starting to look a hint of green. Because of the angle this cap is on, I don't see the polyps, but I think that's just the angle. The purple cap has great PE and is doing well. The orange cap is also starting to recover its floresence under night sea and each day looks a bit more orange. Has great PE. The PE on the stag is great. Still very pale on top, but the tips have a hint of color. Surprising to me to see it all coming back. Progress is steady and promising.

Green cap is green again. Orange cap is Orange and purple is looking better than ever. PE is super! The efflo looks great and the stag is recovering color beautifully. Theres one spot that's either new growth or death. LOL. It is back behind a branch, so I can't get a good look at it. Time will tell, but things are certainly promising. No way I would have thought this when it first happened!
