converting to fowlr

So I previously had a reef? If you want to call it that, but it isn't doing so well. I was highly considering getting out of the hobby completely, but when I walked in to RT4 aquarium yesterday it made me realize I really like fish. So I am thinking of just making it a fowlr.

Anything that I need to keep in mind with this? Any tips or advice?

Really happy you decided not to sell.

Fowlr is super easy compared to reef!!!! Nothing special...some people don't even run skimmers on them

You do not have to worry nearly as much about PO4 & nitrates. Except for how they enhance algea growth. Water changes with cheap salt will do. I'd still run GAC. That said, a blue stripe rabbit (NOT REEF SAFE) wil eat a LOT of algea!:wink: Enjoy!

I ran FOWLR with inverts for years using instant ocean salt and a HOB filter with carbon and filter floss.

I run my FOWLR with only a sump stuffed with rubble rock. That and by weekly water changes I haven't had any problems.

So much more pretty fish option with a FOWLR tank.

Can't tell you how many times my wife would say "oh let get that fish"... and my reply would be "no it will eat my corals".

+1. My wife has gotten tired of looking, cause everything she'd pick out wouldn't work with something.

There're definitely fish I'd love to have if my tank was FOWLR. Have fun with it.

thanks guys and girls, I was considering getting a rbta for my clowns, but idk if that would be a good idea. I don't want it to eat any of my fish!

I'm going to p/u a flame angel from Dr. Jim as well as a tail spot blenny and maybe a itsy bitsy tiny weenie hippo tang too.

RBTA’s are not aggressive anemones and will not “eat” fish unless they are sickly. Accordingly, I’d go for an RBTA if you can.
