Coral ID

Wanted to know if someone can identify this coral?

Soft and wavy. May be some type of gorgo, but I have never seen this type.

Looks brown in pics, but is really more pink.

Bump, I wish somebody would ID this. I like it because it is different and would like to get one.

Taz

there is something kinda similar looking on coralmorphologic.com they call it plexaura flexuosa 5.5" $12. may be something totally different, but looks kinda like it

It is often hard to tell from pictures the rigidity of corals. Of all the ones mentioned, I would say plexaura flexuosa comes the closest in appearance.

Taz,

If you are interested in getting one, I can frag it for you.

This looks like a gorgonian. I have one just like it, but about twice as long with a few more branches.

Is yours very flexible? Mine is kind of like a rubbery noodle that I could bend the branches any which way, and they would not break.

Could tie them in knots if I really wanted to.

Sorry for the delay in response Dave. I was off-line for a few days. Anyway, yes, mine is pretty flexible as well. Never tried to tied it in knots, but it is flexible, more along the lines of a willow branch. I'm actually wondering if you can frag it. It seems pretty easy to just cut a branch off and glue it to another rock.

That's a ribbon gorgonian (Pterogorgia citrina)a gorgonian that likes strong light and strong intermitent flow. The original picture looks like Pseudoplexaura a pretty common gorgonian that comes in many different colors, brown, tan, grey, ect...They are photosynthetic and can survuive under varying light conditions and also likes strong intermitent flow like most gorgs.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought some might appreciate the growth I have had in 9 months. Dave gave me this frag around August '09

There was actually one point where I thought I was going to lose it due to it being overcome by cyano. A lot died off, but it sure bounced back.

Thanks again Dave, Do you still have yours? Any recent pics?

Very impressive growth taz. Do you feed anything extra for it or just let it be?

I'd have to answer that with I just let if be. I do not feed my corals on a regular basis. I feed my fish frozen and flake food. whatever the corals get from that is basically it. Once in a blue moon I feed Rods reef and shut the pump down so all food remains in the tank for a while giving everything a chance to get something and once in a while I throw some coral frenzy in there.

I am actually amazed in a lot of my growth. As soon as I get all the pics together I will post some before and afters on various corals in another thread.
