I have it as well, but it is due to having aragonite sand and the alkalinity levels in my tank from the calcium reactor. It is in only a few small places where the sand calcified together and then coralline algae formed on it.

This may be a stupid question, but are you sure it's coraline and not cyano? Covering the whole top of the sand sounds more like something cyano would do.

I agree with John, i think most people have araganite sand so you would think this would be common, but like i said i've never heard of it

He did not mention aragonite sand, I did. My small issue is what was stated for sure.

I also think that cyno might be his issue.

Reeferwannabe, can you blow off the substance that is on top of the sand? If it is coraline algae, I believe the sand would be calcifying together. You should be able to move the cyno around.
