CPU fans?

Thanks,
I did a bunch of reading lastnight on CPU fans and heard that even the IceCap fans that are 40 bucks are really CPU fans...
I would have the air blowing over the T5's so they run better.

If you set them to push rather than pull, I would guess they would last a lot longer.

I ended up using a 7 inch clip-on-the-bed-headboard type fan from walmart for like $13. It pushs a heckuvalot more air than your standard CPU fan, and since I run it on LOW, it's very quiet.

We use that same fan over the sump on our 65. It does a pretty good job and for $13 you can't beat it!

Yea i like those but i need something to blow across the bulbs. Not worried about heat it's just that with T5's i wanna keep the bulbs around the ideal temp so they run longer/harder.

i lucked out. on one end of my tank are inwall shelves where my step dads trains used to be untill he saw what the salt was doin to them (i told him it wasent good idea putting them there). so now i just have a box fan blowing across the top of my tank/my tek fixture.

How much power (watts) does it use?

NewEgg is where I had suggested. A 5 volt fan would probably work with a 12 vdc power supply and a potentiometer (Radio Shack)

Thought it would. Gave me all the info I needed. One thing I'm going to change is go to the 4" fans as opposed to the 2 or 3" ones. Take and post some pics as you go. Good luck with your installation.

When using Computer fans, use the 120mm fans. They move more air and are quiter because they run at lower RPMS. Also, use the fans to BLOW air instead of sucking it. They will last a lot longer. A good brand is Vantech. They have 2 models I have used in the past. The stealth and the variable speed. The variable speed fan has a sensor in it that increases the fan speed depending upon the temperature. During night these fans run slow and during the day when the lighst are on, they run at full speed.

We used aquarium thermostat/variable speed fans to replace the old PC fans that came with our canopy. They are TERRIBLY loud. I want my PC fans back.
