Crabs

I was looking at my tank during feeding time and I saw something move in my tri color colony. Dug out the magnifying glass and it's a acro crab! The colony was purchased from Bax about 3 months ago (thanks Bax!). This a very cool creature. After watching it for about a hour I noticed a small branch of my Red Planet was white at the base pulled out the glass again and this time I saw something every tiny moving on the coral. After looking for a minute I found a Acro EATING crab on the colony. Got the tweezers and pulled him off. Every small but the tipoff was the black on the tips of the claws. Should I be worried that their are more of them?

My doctor usually gives me a shampoo for my crabs and it takes like a week.........errrrrrr I C . I C.. thoooooooooose crabs.. well then.

yea so i got one of those acro crabs in a frag from Feng. Heres the thing.. WTF do those things eat? I NEVER see mine move and the frags grown from a frag into a mini colony. I poked mine once and he just gave me a WTF look and kept on.. err... being a crab. It is def alive.. and I see it crabbing about at night.. but still in its same spot.

A dip in revive will knock all the crab off and it safe for the coral. The problem is it will kill the good acro crabs so if you want to save them you have to pull them off before the dip.

Lucky that they are on two different colonies. I already took care of the acro eating one. Should I be concerned that there are more crabs or eggs in the tank?

Not sure how much coral you have in there now, but I would give a close look. If you are "stocked" I would consider dipping all or at least examining more closely.

I had one once, that little guy was real cool. Lost him with the hurricane though

Your chances of having a mated pair of acro eating crabs in your tank is very small. From having a mated pair of (good) acro crabs, I can tell you that the female crab will carry the eggs, not lay them. Now, i know i am taking a giant leap by assuming bad acro crabs would do the same. We had a mated pair of acro crabs, and they lived in the same colony, and the female periodically was egg heavy; however, we never ended up with a tank populated with acro crabs, as much as I would have loved that. She released larvae into the water colum just like shrimp do. My guess is my skimmer got them, and yours likely would too assuming you had a pair of the bad guys.
