Creeping Slime

Got home from work today and see an area of slime on my sand bed. I would describe it as clear with a brownish red tint. Area about 3 inches square right now and maybe a quarter of an inch thick. Planning on doing a water change tomorrow and can siphon it out, but would be nice to know what it is and if siphoning is the right thing to do? I don't think I can get a picture to post since it is almost clear.

Anyone ever encounter this?

either cyano or diatoms. Neither is harmful per se- just unsightly. Siphon out is fine. Could be the amount of food you are feeding the tank is greater than the tanks ability to get rid of it (skimmer, water changes).
