Well not exactly my tank, but one of my boys is building his first in a series of frag tanks for his new aquaculture business. I’m pretty stoked for him!

It’s 4x8 @ 16 inches water depth. Should hold about 320 gallons with a 150 gallon sump. it’s perfect timing as it seems my display tank needs to be resealed. Well I hope that’s all it need lol.

Those are some huge montis. Very well done

Thank you, but in all fairness any credit belongs to my son. Everything in that display recovered from small to tiny pieces left after our first winter in Florida in 2022. I don't know what I was thinking, but I was thought that I could monitor remotely and have my son do certain tasks when needed. I was way off. Lost two five gallon buckets of coral. When I got back in May i got it stabilized, and spent the summer explaining to him how everything works. He's done a great job since then.

And you created the next generation of reefer. Our town a few years ago switched something in our water and killed off all of our monti's, I actually corroborated this with another local reefer. Nothing else was harmed, just all of our montis died. They are coming back now as a few polyps survived so I understand.

Ammonia Dosing is how I'm feeding our corals now. Not sure if anyone here has tried this, but it's working good for me. I'm running the frag tank fishless. Just snails, pithos crabs, a few hermits, and peppermints are the only inhabitants aside from corals and algae. I was dosing phosphates and nitrates, and things were going well. I had stumbled across the thread linked below last spring or summer. I ordered baking ammonia from amazon, used the recipe on the thread, and dosed it a few times but not much. I happened back on the thread as soon as I got back from FL this June and was really interested. About a month ago I went from dosing nitrates to keep them around 15-20, to dosing ammonia only. Still testing nitrates, I was just want a little extra ammonia to hold nitrates around 5-10.

I'm dosing 100ml of ammonia a day, spread evenly through the day with a dosing pump (just turned up from 90 yesterday). The results have been great so far. The corals are extremely happy, and the clean up crew seems to be able to keep up with algae much easier now. I've never felt this in control of my reef, instead of reacting to changes, it feels like I'm dictating what the environment in the reef is. As I add more coral, i expect to make the solution stronger so I don't have to dose as much.

Give it a read:
Ammonia dosing for low nitrate systems

Good luck and happy reefing.
