Dan's 150 Rebuild

I found that some Dr Tim's or instant ocean bio spira helped me get my system back on track after treatment. In glad that the meds worked for you. Its some good stuff.

Yeah I'll have to look into getting a bottle or something. Can't wait til this process is all over and done with lol

Well I'm at the end of the medication period. Time to do a water change tonight and throw the poly pad and carbon in tomorrow.

Also ordered my skimmer yesterday so that should be here by early next week hopefully

Just got done doing a 30g water change. Put the poly pad in. Gonna wait til tomorrow and add a nice bag of carbon and let it run for a few days like that. All of my fish look so happy, very hungry and very active :)

New skimmer and pump are on the way, hopefully I can get my plumbing situation taken care of as well tomorrow.

When you first start biopellets, you will want to take GFO off line (and maybe never use it again.) For biopellets to work you need both nitrates and phosphates. If you strip out the phosphates with GFO, biopellets won't work. Those who run both have excessive phosphate. The ratio of phosphate to nitrate for pellets to work is in the neighborhood of 1 to 16, respectively.

Got a picture? Not sure what ya mean

And yeah I read that once you set up the BP, just to let it run for like 2 months without touching it and let it break in. I definitely have nitrates and phosphates tho. So I may run both down the line. Think I need to let my tank establish itself more first before putting all of these on there

Alright awesome. I should be getting my skimmer in the next few days hopefully. What kind of BP reactor would you recommend? I was looking at the standard BRS one just like the GFO.

Wow Jim, that is truly running the BP exit port to the skimmer take-up. I only got mine close....maybe 1 1/2 to 2 inches away....the clear tube in the upper right of the picture:

When I first wanted to give BP's a trial, I took my GFO reactor off line and bought the $10 insert from BRS. With a little tweeking it worked OK, but ultimately it wasn't going to hold enough pellets for my system, so I finally bought a reactor made for running BP's. I bought a RO BR-110 about 3 years ago, and it works fine.

I added an Eheim Compact + 2000 adjustable flow pump to power it.

It can sit in or out of water. I can't remember the exact load capacity but for your setup you would want the 110. I had the same one and liked it but over time I noticed a bit reduction in flow. It wasn't until I accidentally came upon the check valve and noticed that it was clogged. Cleaned it out and good to go again.

I'm running a JNS Alpha 2 that comes with the pump attached. As far as I can tell, it can only be run submerged in the sump. Here it is when I first started with half a cup of pellets.

That's fine, when I first started I was using a Tunze 9011, with the effluent about the same distance from the skimmer intake. The Tunze is a square box, with no means to connect the exit tube from the BP reactor.
And that sits outside the tank right?
Either, but I preferred installing it on the outside to give me more room for other equipment/pumps in the sump.

Just looked em up. what's the difference between br70 and br110? Load capacity?
Yes, you'd need the 110 for your system. Although you'll want to ramp up slowly, the suggested amount of BP's is 1 cup (236mL) for every 50 gallons of water volume, the BR 70 only holds about 400 mL of pellets, the BR 110 is rated up to 1,000 mL.
