I figured since I have tons of unlabeled pics of this stuff, this thread will serve well as an accounting of growth so if there's ever been such a thing as too many pics, I think I'm hitting that now but I think it will be interesting to have something to look back on down the road. I am surprised how mich more demand theer is on Alk now that I have these frags. Granted there's about a dozen of them but they are still VERY small - I wasn't expecting that - I regret selling my kalk reactor now - that may have been a good supliment to the calcium reacotr. I may need to think about moving to dosing 2-part - anyway the colors are not very "bold" in person. actually a lot of them look better in these pics than they do in person....

Didn't have the current pic for this yesterday so I'm adding it

same for the purple mili - not sure if this is handig on at all - the pic looks way better than it does in person - maybe it's the Alk issue.

Well, I just read through the whole thread. Must say, what a transformation. Your tank is looking amazing now. I need to make some good reefer friends like you have. By the way, for HA, I heard that bumping your mag to like 1500-1800 would eliminate it fairly quickly (in case it comes back). Love the birdsnest, and that huge hammer. A+ :)

Thanks!
The friends I have made in this club are generous beyond words. The green hammer was the first "gift" I was given and in turn I've been able to share it with 4 other members. I have one more piece on the rack that I'd gladly contribute if you're starting a tank and want to make the trip. I think I'm pretty far from you - down by Phila...

I have a reef set up going :). It's a 55g with softies and lps. And wow, I'd really appreciate that. You are the first person I've ever met that volunteered to give me a frag for free. I don't mind the commute so much, besides, it'd be nice to actually see your tank in person. AND, on a side note. Would you be interested in a Scopas Tang that's like 3ish inches? He's yours for free if you would like :)

PM me if you want to make the trip down. I can't take the tang but thanks for the offer. I already have a yellow and a hippo in a 90

Slowly but surely tank ver 1.02 is pulling through the planning stages. (Note, ver 2.0 i.e., upgrade remains a few years away....).
The biggest changes will be under-stand in sump, plumbing and flow. I removed the baffles to reconfigure the sump layout. I'm going from [drain->return<-fuge] to [drain->fuge->return]. I also will be taking volume from the fuge to fit my skimmer better so a larger drain section.
Also I'm going from a mag 9.5 return plus MJ12s (3 of them) for reactors to a mag 24 and a manifold.
My delay now is setting up the manifold. I want 5 outputs (for expansion) plus the return but the PVC fittings are each about 2" so there is not room for what I wanted to do without some mods. I have a plan. I'll post when I have some pics but for now I'll represent it like this:

X=reactor outlets
^= return or horizontal pipe
= = vertical pipe
# = mag 24

X=X=^=X=X=X=^#

I guess this doesn't make any sense. I'll get some pics.

Dave, I have a ton of miscellaneous PVC fittings between 3/4" and 1 1/2", including valves, unions, etc. if you're interested.

No problem. Can I assume that this will no longer be the"glass room" experiment?

Yes. That's a fair assessment. It's someone else's glass room. I wouldn't try that again. Too much heat and my lighting schedule was always a problem. I fed algae with a prolonged lighting schedule but the alternative was to have the lights on all day while I was at work and that sort of defeated the purpose I thought.
But the idea of starting the tott from scratch is intimidating so I'll just call this 1.02 until the upgrade
Side note, hopefully in a few months you'll be trimming again b/c I lost all the pieces I had from you. Maybe a few things will come back but at the moment it looks like all my SPS are damaged beyond recovery. Too much phosphate in the stock tank ICU.

I am sorry to hear that.
Don't give up on them yet, we had several pieces I thought were dead after our disaster this winter, and they are trying very hard to prove me wrong right now.

Finally making some progress on getting my rig back up and running. The biggest change with Tank 2.0 will be "under the hood"
Instead of the old return which was a Mag 9 I went to a Mag 24 which will push through a manifold to eliminate all the MJ12s I used for various reactors. Here's an early dry-fit mock-up.

B42248F2-CD64-449A-B167-6065B7E4A7C9_zps1ny3zija.jpg

Also the sump layout and flow pattern has changed. The "fuge" will be smaller to leave a decent sized return section to feed the new larger Mag and allow my skimmer to fit more easily.

Another change will be the rock work. For starters I'll be drilling all the rocks to accommodate frag plugs. also I'm going to try to make some clusters and try to set it up so it will be more modular. My plan is to use water-weld paste (used before and it works pretty well) and some cut up black plastic hanger to keep things stationary. Too many rock slide disasters from routine maintenance.
Hopefully I'll be making water in the tank before the turkey's on the table. More details will follow but I think I will start a new tale and put this to rest since it's no longer a glass room experiment.

I love seeing stuff like this. Keep it updated with photos of the setup. Curious to see how you are going to do the manifold :)
