March 24 at 6:02 PM · Shown here is a Cone Snail...some scientists have called it "the deadliest creature in the ocean"...its beautiful, brightly coloured shell makes it attractive, but if you picked up a cone snail, you could die a very quick death and hardly ever feel any pain. Once a cone snail's nose senses food nearby, it extends a sharp needle-like protrusion from its mouth. A human might not even feel the sting of this protrusion or "proboscis" because the attack is instantaneous, and the venom injected into your body contains analgesic, pain killing properties. Humans have died from simply picking one up to look at the pretty coloured patterns on its shell...
