Di resin

Just curious how fast everyone is exhausting their DI resin? In January I changed out everything and mine started showing up at 1 yesterday. From tap = 400 tds, after membrane = 6, pressure = 60 psi. I run 2 DI resin canisters. Exhausted in about 3 months. I did leave my flush valve on one day for about 4 hours by accident. Not sure if that would cause it to exhaust quicker. Just looking to see if anyone else has the same results.

Can an admin move this to the general forum. Always forget to change the default forum from my phone!

I got a 6 stage BRS unit for Christmas. I make 25 gallons each week. Stage 5 is still good.

I have a bi - pass installed on my until, which allows me to flush my membrane without going into the DI canister. It's a T valve with a diverter on it. BRS carries them

Want it in the equipment section?
It's an aqua fx 100 GPD membrane. I have the flush valve installed and run it for a minute when I start and end making water.

You could run an extra carbon block instead of the 1st, brown DI unit and that should help in removing additional impurities going in.

I have a 6 stage but only use 1 DI cartridge. It's sediment 》sediment 》carbon block 》RO membrane 》carbon block 》DI

You can see the bi pass in between the 2x units. 15237982123041143848396.jpg 15237982995251893962159.jpg

The second pic is my flush kit. I also run my unit around 80psi which will help force more water through your RO membrane

Do you know what's the minimum psi the manufacturer recommends for the unit?

Also note that my set up isn't 100% ideal for the Bi pass valve as it should be set up before my DI so that it can flush everything else. I just have been lazy and just left it as is.

Minimum is 60 psi and mine is about 62 psi.

Mine is sediment>carbon block>membrane>di>di. Maybe I'll add another carbon block and only do one resin.

That may be a good idea, given your tap water seems very dirty. How fast does your sediment filter gets clogged? That could be it too if it's frequent

Upping the psi will get better results, and less waste water. I’m using the aquatic life booster pump, it flushed the membrane each time it runs, and gets me to 104 psi from 42 psi at the tap. I get about 40 tds at tap, 0 after membrane, 0 after DI. I’m still using the same resin (it’s about half exhausted) since I started the tank in October. I make about 40-50 gallons of rodi a week.

I changed all my filters in January. I change them out when I replace the di resin.

I run a reef keeper and typically get 8 months to a year from the resin. 80psi in. TDS in 79. 0-1 out of membrane(if it gets to 3-4 I change membrane). 75GPD membrane and 800 flow restrictor. I just changed membrane after 3 years. I have had this unit for around 9 years.
1-5 micron sediment, 1- 5 micron carbon, 1-1 mic. carbon then to membrane. Pre-Filters changed every 6 to 8 months
This is a dual duty unit, it is connected to my fridge as well. (di not to fridge) I also have a permeate pump. Small water draws make the TDS creep up.
I fast flush and watch an inline TDS meter until TDS drops to 4 or lower. This takes approx. 3-5 min.

You have high input TDS water. The flow restrictor can be sized larger for hard water or smaller for low TDS water. Example 75gpd uses 550 to 800 flow restrictor. I can probably get a 600 and save some waste water.
But it may foul the membrane faster.
Your unit seems to be 94percent efficient? Maybe changing the flow restrictor to a larger size will help?
