Disney - grafted caps

Who would have thought I'd see a 12" x 12" (probably larger) grafted cap at disneyworld. I always drag my wife and son to look at the corals after the seas with Nemo ride. And they use the cheap egg crate like we do!

I love their reef tanks. They have a relationship with ORA which is why they have so much of their SPS. They also do a lot of research in that facility as well and were on the team that discovered carbon can exacerbate HLLE

Didn't know they had a relationship with ORA. I knew that one SPs looked familiar.

We were in Disneyworld earlier this spring and I can't remember seeing this. I was probably too stressed dragging my 2 kids around the park lol

lol yes, where indeed. im going next week with the kids, maybe i can get my wife to deviate from the plan long enough to see some coral..... if only she'll let me go to WWC, my disneyworld!

We rented a car and went to Kennedy space center which was real cool. On the way back I mentioned WWC was only 20 minutes out of the way. That wasn't happening. Well be back down in April and I already have a plan to get there......

I already planted the seed with my wife about going to WWC when we go to Disney. I don't care if I have to fake my own death I'm getting there when we go to Disney.

These exhibits are at the seas in Epcot. The reef tanks are downstairs after the ride but they have a room dedicated to aquaculture fish, corals, and clams upstairs. They even had tank raised cuttlefish there.

MACNA is at Disney in 2019 so make a dual trip out of it.

The last time they had MACNA in Orlando there was a behind the scenes tour at Sea World. It was a fantastic tour and I got to meet revhtree and his wife from reef2reef. My only gripe is that it was super hot that day. I remember because we met the sea world employees outside and we were all huddled in the shade ha ha! Disney tanks were neat (the ride is dated). It would be cool if they had a behind the scenes tour at disney for those tanks.

They kind of do have a behind the scenes tour or we just for really lucky. A few trips back we were quizzing one of the cast members on what they were doing and the guy was like alright you know what you are talking about. He then took us back whined the scene and gave us a full tour of the tanks and their research. We have never gotten invited back again and have even asked and people had no clue what we were talking about. We hope one day to do it again.

Two years ago we saw this setup at Disney and that grafted cap sure has grown a lot since then! We were grilling a poor cast member, ya know fish and coral talk, and she got someone to bring us behind the scenes. Only downside was we were not allowed to take pictures. It was really cool! They use instant ocean brand salt for the smaller tanks with the corals.
We already booked the hotel for MACNA 2019. Anyone else going?
