Is using just the stand pipe loud? How do you get rid of the girgling noise?

Yes a stand pipe alone is loud, the durso and the stockman standpipes were made to stop the noise. They work by totally submerging the intake part of the pipe and using the water to block the noise from coming out of the opening. The mouth of the intake pipe is kinda like a megaphone making the sounds alot louder.

i actually was reading up on bean's setup, but i for its not for me, because if i was to do that, i would like to run a calfo overflow, which would take up much space in a small 50g tank. I also did the hofer gurle buster on my U tube overflow box, that i have on my 75g and it did wonders...best $3 i spent on the tank..I was thinking of the glass holes 700gph kit, anyone have any experience with it,if its quiet? I still don't understand the external durso setup...do people run these without a overflow box? would it be noisy and have much greater chances of being blocked my critters?

nevermind, i do understand the external durso setup..if i were to do one or two external durso, say either 2 1" bulkheads, one on each corner, or just one 1.5" bulkhead, with just the 90 and intake strainer(put somekind of netting on the strainer for critters), would that setup be better/quieter than the glass holes overflow box?

I dont see any solution for stoping noise with the glass holes overflow box, i would guess depending on the amount of flow you have its going to be a little loud or very loud. Any of the 3 gurgle busting systems will be quiter than this thing, durso, stockman, hofer. etc etc.
