DIY Stand/Canopy Plans

Does anyone have a plan (measurements, cutting list et al) for building a 6' stand and canopy? I am looking for a plan for building the framing using 2X4 or 2X6. Pl. post here if you have one.

Thank you
Arvind.

According to RC’s above build instructions, a six foot tank requires 2 x 6 upper braces while all other framing members are 2 x 4.

Here’s Onefish’s “Tale of the Tank” thread were he built the RC frame for a five foot tank:

Note, standard store bought stands are typically 24 – 30 inches high. But, you can make your stand whatever height you want. With Onefish’s stand, it was build at 38 ½ inches high…for two reasons:

1. To make viewing while standing a little easier.
2. To fit the 40 gallon breeder sump (and other stuff) underneath.

In addition, a ½ inch was added to the actual tank length and depth to leave a ¼ space around the whole tank.

Hope this helps.

Arvind, I see you are in Edison….we’re in Sayreville. You are welcome to stop by and see what we have. As far as the canopy, the type of lights you wish to install will, in part, drive some of the design elements. We are still kicking around canopy designs, as well as the side cabinet.

I used to live in Sayreville also, before we moved to Edison. Thank you for the invite. I will certainly stop by and will PM you on it. :)

It is going to be a 6 ft X 2 ft tank. Pl. do send me the plans for stands or canopies. Too bad that your cabinet doesn't fit in my living room :(

Thanks
Arvind.

It was nice meeting you Paul and John. Thanks for having me and showing me the stands that you have made and also for patiently explaining everything. I really appreciate it.

Arvind.
