Does anyone go to the range (target practice)

I hear Ray's really has grim service, but since they are they one of the very few n NNJ they still remain in business.

AqOb; what do you have?!? all of them seem pretty crazy

I went to one in the Poconos. It was awesome. You can bring your own or shoot theirs. They had a big selection of guns to shoot, From pistol to sniper weapons. Their targets were hanging items, stationary items and paper targets. A friend of mine brought my wife and I there and we had a blast. It was the first time his wife ever shot a gun and she liked it too. She shot a few different ones.

my friend has a Glock, very nice! I've never fired a Walther.

one of my other friends has a 357 Magnum, been trying to get him to the range so i can fire that thing!

ReefsAndRotts, did you used to go to Cherry Ridge?

That Barrett gonna blow a hole in the back of any indoor range! I used to go to Greeleys in Cedar Grove (long gone), you couldn't shoot any long guns there or even magnums. They would come back and bust your chops if they heard magnums.

All the indoor ranges in NJ suck. I miss shooting beercans outside, in Florida!

I have used the indoor range in Paterson in the past. They occasionally put up meets where you can use their Assault Rifles and try different manufacturer's guns

I shoot at Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club (CJRPC) in Jackson Twp. It is a membership range but they have many events that non-members can participate in. One of them is an "All Gun Day" which is open to non-members. You have an oppertunity to shoot any gun that they have or most anyone brings. Nice event if you are looking to buy something and want to try a few out. You can check out the calander here: http://www.cjrpc.org/ Glock is a nice firearm. I am retired PD. and we carried the Glock .40 cal. I have shot the 9 though and it is nice. You might want to check out Beretta also.

As far as time to get a permit, it partially depends upon which municipality you live in and how fast they process them. For the most part though, the time has has been reduced quite a bit since the old days. It took me a week in Hamilton Twp. but I already have a firearms ID card. Not entirely sure of the total time if it's your first handgun but computers have reduced the time it takes. If you live near Jackson and want to try it out, I can take you for a tour and let you try out what I have.

Thats actually backwards now... the average time in NJ is 3-4months even thought its supposed to take only 30days by-law.

But in NJ gun owners are barely considered citizens... (except police, or retired police)

when i applied it took about 4 months (maybe longer) and i was fresh out of the military and I had the mayor and ex chief of police of the next town over as references

That's about how long it took me in the 70's for my firearms I-D card. Maybe that's the delay. I know all the info has to be run through the State and Feds. Once you have the ID card it has been my experience that any subsequent handgun permit turn around time is alot quicker than it used to be. But unfortunately like you said, NJ is anything but a gun owner friendly state.
