does homeowners cover lost tanks

well we started our vacation to indiana on friday.got a phone call saturday morning that trees where everywhere power lost. we have or should i say HAD two tanks fulled with corals. everything is gone my question is will insurance cover the cost.

Insurance will only cover the physical tank and equipment as part of your personal property. It will not cover lost fish or coral.

It wouldnt hurt to try. We had a customer who had a similar issue and was reimbursed for about 50% of his losses. He did however need to submit receipt copies for fish and corals he had purchased.

Cool idea though. Wonder if you can create a rider on your homeowners for tank related stuff. I have one for my network lab at home, as it was worth about 10k before i sold it.

I own an insurance agency....I don't know of any company that will cover livestock. Just like if there was a fire and your dog died, they won't cover the dog.

The only thing covered is loss of physical equipment.

Not sure who your customer is, but I'm pretty sure they were pulling your leg on that one.

Unless you have Progressive, but even then, it only covers cats and dogs up to $1,000.

I have searched and searched for some type of insurance product for fish and have found nothing. I thought maybe even a pet insurance type product, but there are none...they only cover dogs and cats. Fish unfortunately are not considered real pets by the insurance industry.

The insurance adjuster actually came into our store to verify receipts. Yes, he was reimbursed for 50% of his losses. It's getting hard to contribute around here.
