Does your skimmer produce every day?

I have an Aqua C EV-120 that I thought was a good skimmer years ago. I know there are much better ones, but for the time being it's better than nothing. Mine is very unconsistent. one day it'll be wet skimming like crazy and for a couple days it may not pull any thing out I've tried just about everything I can think of there is just no in between. I ordered a spray injector from Aqua C because when cleaning my fathers skimmer(same model) I noticed that his looked different from mine. For 10 dollars including shipping I figured it's worth a shot.

I have seen some nasty stuff you guys pull out of your skimmers, is that every day, or is there a lul in between?

I'm sure there is alot of posts out there, but what skimmers are you using and what would you recommend as the best. eventually I will buy a good one and want a model for around 300 gal.(i assume you should take total water volume including sump when shopping right?)

Thanks for your input

im using a coralife super skimmer 65 and i am pretty happy with it, for the price and all, its on a 50g tank and pulls out about half the collection cup of skimate if not a little more in a day, its not thick and dark but stinky and yellow. andway its pretty consistent with the amount it pulls out, im sure i could skim dry if i wanted but i enjoy getting half a cup of nasty yellow water out of my tank everyday, makes me feel like the skimmers working hard...just my .02

I have a euro-reef I bought on E-Bay. Thank god for ebay. $250 skimmer I got it for $120 and change with $20 for shipping, it was a steal. It produces about 1/4 a cup a day of green junk. You need to make sure you get the fine bubbles all the way up to about a few inches to get some good junk out. I had a deltec that was good and expensive, but this euro-reef is a champ for me. Its sized for 250G for my 72g tank. In aquarium equipment bigger is better in ratings the better. Never buy equipment that is exactly rated for your tank, GO LARGE as you can afford.

In the beginning I used a won brothers skimmer that I bought at a LFS. It broke after about 6 months. I then bought ASM G3 skimmer. This is a Euro-reef (that Satan Milkman's said) knock off and have been quite happy so far. I clean it once a week sometimes once in two weeks.

Like many equipments in this hobby, there is a vast difference in the craftsmanship between a $100 skimmer and a $250 skimmer. You should go for the most expensive and most durable skimmer that you can afford.

You may also want to look for used skimmers, sometimes you get some really good deals.
