Dosing Peroxide

George,
I am adding the peroxide to my return portion of the sump for now. I plan to try squirting the HA with an eye dropper later in the week. I have scraped off the overflow before and will eventually. Just waiting for it have less of a hold.

I plan to pull those little rocks out from the bottom of the tank. Then test that 50/50 dip and see if the HA melts away.

Gotcha Mark. Also, you might want to keep an eye on your nitrate levels as the HA dies off. Right now, that's probably what's keeping it in check and when you remove the HA, there's less to consume the nitrates.

I guess bigger water changes will help with both dilluting the peroxide and balancing the nitrates (assuming your new salt water doesn't have high levels too). Anyway, just keep an eye on that as you progress through this.

Thanks George. I have a large portion of cheato and Caulerpa so I hope they keep the nitrates down. I will try and pluck what I can once the HA loosens its hold. Some rocks I may toss, esp small ones.

Pm sent...also I would add 10W40 motor oil in large quantities to help choke out the hair algea. It helped down in Lousiana and now they have no algea issues at all;) jk

I have been dosing peroxide for about three weeks now . My algae is much better but I also changed other practices so I can not give the peroxide all the credit. I read slot about it before starting and started with the 1/10ratio like you . I add directly to the tank. Good luck. I think you will be happy.

Qwik, thanks for the post. I too read many online articles before making this decision. I run GFO and Carbon but right now I am not using carbon. I plan to switch out my GFO media this week. I really think my problem was that PC light as I never had this issue with my old T5 light. I switched lights because the T5 was only 36" and I wanted more coverage and took the 48" PC. I am hoping that with new lights, WC, GFO and peroxide the HA will eventually go away in time. The skimmer produces a lot of gunk in the collection cup since I have started dosing peroxide.

I also blame old bulbs for part of my issues. I had bought a used fixture and was waiting for AO,s anniversary sale to buy new ones. I was also not rinsing off food and had new Marco rock in the tank. This is the reason I can not give peroxide all the credit but I do believe it has helped. I dose directly into the tank,I use a baby medicine syringe from the drug stora (free) to measure out and just spread it out over the surface area.

I decided to scrub the rock and overflow. The overflow was a pain and I didn't get all of it as it would not come off with the scraper. I also ended up re-aquascaping with 2 new rocks I obtained. Unfortunately, caused the sand to stir up and much detritus everywhere. I will get pics when the tank clears up. I will continue dosing peroxide to help with the HA on the overflow and any where else tiny pieces may have landed. I plan to get a dozen small blue hermits o help with the HA.

I have 2 videos one of the new rock work and the HA waving. They are saved to my HD and not able to post.
Any suggestions?
