Did you make that external overflow? If you did do you have any pictures or can you tell me how you did it? Thanks

I never got around to doing it but I can email you pictures of the one on my current tank.

Definitely forgot to ask you this last weekend, but how do you install bulk heads?
Now that I've seen more pics and this tank I think you just get 2 adapters, push them into either side of the whole and screw them together?
It looks like there is glue involved too...
and what are the specific peices called ?

Lol, I love when it's obvious I know what I'm talking about...

Bulkheads are a specific fitting used when you need to run a pipe through something. See this offsite link - http://www.savko.com/portal/bulkhead.asp
Note that it comes in three parts, the fitting itself, a washer, and a nut. A bulkhead is installed in the hole, with the flange of the fitting and the washer on the inside of the tank. Then the nut is threaded on the outside. Do not over tighten things.

Bulkheads can be obtained with either slip (S*S) or thread (T*T) or a combination of both (S*T). Only the slip connections need to be glued. Use teflon tape on the thread connections

You should not use two adapters to substitute for a bulkhead. Adapters are made with pipe threads. This means that the threads are tapered, and get tighter as they are screwed together. It's almost impossible to make a watertight seal between the adapters and the hole.

If the bottom of the tank is tempered does that mean that the rest of the tank is tempered? I want to drill my 90 but the bottom is tempered...was wondering if it is ok to drill the sides....Thanks!!!

Its very possible the sides are not tempered. I would call the tank maker to be sure. Try and see if there is a lable or anything with the build date and any info you can find before calling them.

Since this is from OCTOBER we'll assume that the OP has already either drilled the glass or gone a different route. Thanks for all of the posts.
