dry rock

I guess this kind of falls under equipment... otherwise please move it to the right thread...

I'm trying to decide between BRS reef saver and Macro Rocks.

Anyone have experience with both? which is easier to scape with?

Also does anyone have any experience with the mortar that Macro Rocks sells? I'm looking to make a crazy scape and wanted to give it a try as I've heard its very strong.

Was thinking about Pukani but heard so many people have issues with leaching phosphates. And ive heard of several people getting junky pieces from BRS Pukani that was hard to scape with.

Skip them and go with Reef Rocks. http://reefrocks.net/
Great stuff. I used it exclusively in my 90 and plan on using it again in my upgrade. The owner can be a little slow on the draw sometimes but gets the job done. I have yet to see anyone have any leaching problems with it, unlike the 2 you named above. Not sure what your location is but Ultra Corals, a sponsor here sells it and usually has a great selection of pieces to choose from. Or you can order from the site, the owner will take requests for custom scapes and send pics for approval.

Oh I've never heard of them. Looks legit ill have to see. Maybe ill take the trip to ultra corals to see them in person.

I see they have two different types of rock, did you choose which you purchased? Just reading over their website and saw them describing both.

Edit: Never mind read their page wrong.

Here's an unsolicited suggestion - if you go ahead with dry rock, don't forget to free it from phosphates while you're curing it - especially if the source of the rock you get is from land and not the ocean. There are loads of forum threads on the web about different ways to do it.

Ended up getting 25lbs from macro rocks, extremely happy with the purchase, ended up with a great scape and the rock is awesome. Definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some dry rock.

I might order the package they have 75lbs of rock and 160lbs of sand for $279. Doesn't seem bad especially bc I need both for my 150g build lol

I was going to do the same with the 20lb pack but i already had sand. Idk how their sand is but their rock is awesome. I bought some of their mortar too so i can make some solid scapes but haven't used it yet. I'll see how good it is.
