Guess it was sooner than later with everyone else experiencing tank issues. I'm not sure exactly what happened but i just had a total tank wipeout. Trying to save a few pieces here and there but doubtful of survival. I had a few recent changes which could ALL have contributed but no idea which one really did me in.
1. Treated for Flat worms using prohibit. This was my third treatment and all had went well. Nothing died during or after the treatment and the problems started happening 1 week later.
2. Cleaned out my entire sump and vaccumed out all of the crud inside of it.
3. Finally put my calcium reactor online.
4. Added 500ml of Biopellets because I was dangerously low.
Testing today my Nitrates were 0.25ppm - Phosphates 0.08 ppm - Alk 11dkh - Calcium 490ppm - Magnesium 1400ppm
Here is what I think happened.
The Prohibit nuked my biological filter. My Nitrates Skyrocketed up above 0.20ppm which causes coral browning out according to my research. My Phosphate levels raised and caused additional issues. On top of that my biopellets may have started stripping P04 too fast causing more issues and vacuuming out the sump caused even more issues. Looks like tank Maintenance caused me more problems than I had hoped.
I lost all my colonies it would seem. All my caps and stuff have zero polyp extension and I'm about to try and clip some pieces and see if I can salvage anything. I had very common SPS corals. Birds Nests - Samarensis, Green Slimer , Rose Millipora, Red Planet , Candy Canes, Tricolor Validia, and 1 or 2 others considered (Expensive).
The Real Beautiful corals in my tank were my acan and chalice corals which were already removed to my Solana. Guess I'll be starting over.
This Time around I'm going full LED and have already purchased 4 AI Sol Blues and will be purchasing 2 CoralVue T5 Retrofits. In the mean time I will remove what corals I have and Hypo Salinity my Big tank to kill off some ich That I might have had kicking around in there. I have setup my Frag tank and cleaned it out 100% in preparation for my Restocking. Here's hoping for the best. Thanks for everyone's best wishes.
