Durable Dog Bed

Hey everyone. My dog decides to rip every bed she gets. Anyone know of an extremely durable bed? She's about 65-70lbs. Pitt-Lab. I tried punishing her by giving her no bed but she retaliated by taking my 14 year old Pug's bed. Need help!

Wish I knew the answer to this. My Lab mix is chewing everything she can. I'm convinced that there is nothing she can't get through. But I will follow along hoping someone knows something.

Yeah my dog loves destroying everything. I can't even get her toys anymore bc within one hour, it's completely gone! Kong toys have nothing on her lol.

Petco recommended kong toys and promised they would refund them if my dog destroys it. I went back the very next day with the aftermath of my dogs playtime. I wish I took a picture of the managers face.

As the owner of a 4 year old lab, had one for 12 years prior there is no such thing as an indestructible bed. Kong toys are the best and truly the most worthwhile investment. I would skip a bed until the phase is over otherwise you are throwing away money. Mine lived in his crate with a old towel for a year. Then when he was good he got a bed.

I can't do that since I have a 14yo pug who sleeps 98% of the day. He needs a bed as he has severe arthritis but my pitt-lab tries to take the bed from him and he hates that. If I separate them, the pug starts crying bc he doesn't want to be alone. He lost his wife earlier this year to diabetes.

to get her to stop destroying the bed you have to catch her doing it and reprimand her. shes probably gotten into a nice little habit by now so you'll have to do that for a couple weeks and reward her with a little treat or a "good girl" every time you see her sitting there peacefully (you'll have to figure out some way to reward the behavior you want from her). the deterrent spray may help too

as for the chewing of the beds have you tried the bitter apple paste?

no i have not. i've tried keep off spray. it worked but stunk.

Was she ever crate trained?

no, i don't crate train. i understand it works, but i just feel too bad. she's a great dog, she doesn't destroy the house, doesn't run away when the door is open, etc. i think it's a cry for attention.

oh she got caught many times. she feels bad and hides in the corner with a sad face. she knows that if she plays the sad guilty dog, i'll eventually give in.

Crate training is one of the best things. Until a dog exists that stage you control it's freedom.
