EBay Chinese LEDs

I have 2 165w dimmable LEDs that I bought off eBay and they're just blue and white LEDs. My question is, has anyone successfully opened these up and changed a few leds? Like put a green one in or something? Just curious!

Depends if they are leds on a board, individual stars, etc. Can be easy or close to impossible. Depends what the internals are like

Probably not as far as I can tell by looking at them, but it should be fairly easy to pop the cover off and see the board.

Probably but they've been in use for over 6 months. And yeah it probably would make sense just to put the money out for a decent fixture Lol how much r the reef breeder ones?

They're like $179 for the basic dimmable ones but they're only 120w. Wouldn't that be downgrading from my 165's?

I don't have any technical specs on your light nor the reefbreeders lights but it all depends on the diodes, drivers, heatsink etc. That each fixture uses. Your 165w light I can safely say is worse than the 72w or whatever AI Sol blue because they use much higher quality leds and parts.

If I recall correctly the reefbreeders are the same basic chinese lights that are built in a better plant with better quality control, and a lot better customer service. I might be wrong though, but I remember reading that on reefcentral or something where tbe owner of reef breeders basically said that

I'm waiting on a group buy on Evergrow lights from another forum that are the same as Reefbreeders but a much better price. If you can wait. it will save you some money. PM me if you want more info.

Mark...

Well I haven't had any trouble with these lights at all so I can't really knock em. And I don't HAVE to have different color LEDs, just thought it'd be cool to add em in. I'm not in the market for lights right now, have a few other things I need to take care of before upgrading lights. Lol

And thank you Mark I appreciate that. Do u know when the GB might be?

They are just getting delivery on their second buy (delayed a couple of days due to Chinese holiday), and seem to be working on a list for buy number three. With enough interest, I'd guess some time by the end of October. I just asked the guy running it if he will confirm the 3rd buy.

BTW it's on the Photon series we are talking about.

Gotcha, probably too early for me. Have to buy some rock and a doser before that haha

Here is a demo of the 32 inch light by a retailer in Canada, but has nothing to do with the group buy...enjoy...I want two of these for my 180 build.

The buyers so far are raving about the lights, I'm sure there are more/better videos out there on You Tube. These are the same as Reefbreeders.

These lights will cut my light budget in half.

Awesome. I'll look into them eventually
