So ive been running this light (first generation) for almost a year and a half, its the 23.5" unit that is n ot controllable or dimmable with the led modules that have 8 whites and 4 blues per strip. when i got it it was the latest and greatest available at the time.. at first i was not impressed with the very yellow color it gave off, compairable to a 6700k T5, i then slowly started adding blue stunner strips and some blue/magenta to get the 14k look i am partial to with a little fiji purple highlight.. when it was all said and done i had purchased 9 yes nine stunners to finally make the color i liked, but unfortunatly i noticed that the stunners did nothing for lumens output or PAR values, so they were pure asthetics, i figure that ok well 6700k is great for growth so lets see what happens... well after abt 4 months i noticed i was getting less polyp extesnion and that my mushrooms were reaching for the sky( and they were near the top, my acros were slowly fading and loosing color.. after abt 9 months i realized the only things doing good were my LPS, and one sps nana colony that was mid tank directly below the light but has went from blue with purple tips to green with faded blue tips.. I guess i should mention that i have a 92g bowfront corner tank, with a 54g bowfront corner custom sump. I spoke with the manufactured on many ocassions and they swear that there is plenty of light from these units to grow healthy SPS, so ive decided to do the old test and trial routine, ive switched out the light with a 400W halide.. so lets see..

has anyone else used these lights? any thoughts?

i know they came out with RGB units and controllable ones.. i know the ones i have are 1W leds in the units where most units are 3W..

thanks,
mike

I registered just so I could reply..... I went through the exact same thing. Had a friend come down with a Par reader and everything was a little low. He's been into coral for +30 yrs. says the spectrum of light isn't correct. I bought mine second hand so I'm stuck with them. I will admit the set up is pretty cool but I'm so disappointed.

Everyone thought I was crazy but I have pics of my SPS and there was no growth and the corals started to fade and brown. Metal halide back on even though the light was bright enough to light a baseball field.

I hope you get this message I know this post is from 2010.
