Emerald Crabs good or not ?

I want to get rid of the darn bubble algae in my tank, but not sure if I want to add an Emerald Crab to my tank after a bad experience with a crab I had in my tank before.

Has anyone actually had good luck ridding the tank of bubble algae with an Emerald ??

The pic below is the crab I caught terrorizing my tank, I'm pretty sure it's not an emerald.

sometimes they work sometimes they dont.
I have a few green bubble algae in my tank for a while now and it has not spread around. if it does, the best way is to take the rock out and scrub it off then rinse the spores away by swishing it in a bucket.some people start a siphon and carefully pick it off the rock while siponing it out so the spores dont spread. good luck

i would get the emerald crab for the sake of getting a reefsafe(er) crab but not to rid of bubble algae. it's cool to look at but who know if it will control your algae and/or bother any of your corals.

i say nay.

They took care of the bubble algae on a piece of rock we put in the tank. I didn't see it until after we put in the tank

i like them, but i haven't seen them do anything for nuisance algae unless they are starving. sometimes they will eat some xenia or other softies, but not enough to make you worry. actually, i see that as a blessing!

I have had good luck with mine eating bubble algae. They also keep the rocks clean in the area they stay in.

I heard that they do more spreading of bubble algae than anything else. The only thing I've ever seen my emerald eat is coraline and grape caulpra (decimated it).

i dont trust anything with claws!! except my lil strawberry crab = )

good choice, emerald crab = nothing but trouble. Granted, they are awesome little creatures, they're just unpredictable. Similar to peppermint shrimps eating aptasia- ya never know

Yea, like most tank mates, their always seems to be conflicting reports of success and failures. I've had them decimate my bubble algae problem and never bother any of my xenia or other corals. However, i concur with the mantra that no crab is 100% safe.

I believe those are a species of mud crab - perhaps the Atlantic Mud Crab ( but it seems too small for that). I'm not sure but in the spring I did a crab research project and saw a crab similar to that and I think it was a mud crab. Just FYI if u were interested in what crab it is still..
