Epoxy

I have tried superglue gel (corals) and AquaStik Underwater Epoxy (rock) so far.

My experience with AquaStik Underwater Epoxy is that it is not good for curing under water despite its claims.

I have not tried a dry application yet.

I have had more success with super glue gel, but it often does not work either.

What are others successful with?

Try mixing the epoxy with the superglue works well. This was a tip I received from JohnS_323.

More to the point, what kinds of corals are you working with?

Different corals, especially the soft corals, use different methods of mounting them. Also, if your using LR to mount the coral, it works best if the area you want to mount the coral on is clean. I usually go over the mounting surface with a toothbrush before mounting.

Aquamend and the loctite gel glue from Home depot. Use them together. It's messy for who ever is doing the mixing (poor SOB) usually Anthony. lol You can use gloves but it is a very sticky job but in the long run it works really well

Large tube of loctite gell is 4.97
tube of aquamend is 3.97

i mix it this way - less messy...

- roll a small ball of epoxy
- make TWO big den on opposite side, or poke a hole in the middle
- apply gel-glue to the hole
- you can wait for a minute or so, if you want to...

- stick the epoxy to the coral by holding the non-gel-part
- stick the coral base to the live rock
- make sure powerhead is temporary off for about 20 mins, so the coral won't get blow over

Thanks all for the great tips. I will definitely give them a try.

To answer the question around what corals. Mostly this has been either plug to rock, or SPS to rock.

I have a mixed reef, so I imagine in the future there will be some other corals I need to mount as well.

Thanks again all.

What do you guys use for Zoa's?

I've been using the IC gel from the group buy and I find that the Zoa's stay attached for a day or two and somehow detach. I have only one of 10 frag groups left. The other "disappeared". I found that I had the same problem with krazyglue gel and I was hoping that this stuff would do a better job. I'm attaching to ceramic plugs and LR rubble.

Thanks guys!

the IC gel form group buy works great for me...

- I would place the Zoa on a dried-paper-towel first, so the Zao's bottom is NOT-wet
- next, wipe off water from plugs/LR-rubble, then apply 1 or 2 drops of glue on top
- then, place the Zoa's BOTTOM on the glue

- use your finger or something soft to press the Zoa to sink in the glue halfway
- if you applied too much glue, use a tooth-pick to flatten the glue down, otherwise, when you press the Zoa too hard, it will all Sink in-side the glue (that is NO GOOD!)
- place it back in the tank

- if you want the plugs/LR-rubble to stick to the Live Rock inside the tank
- wait 20 mins or so, then use the Epoxy methods mentioned earlier

NOTE: WARNING...
when working with Zoa, always wear eye-protection-goggles like these (can be find in HomeDepot)
