Erased in the overflow

He's about 2". The tank is a standard 75. He must've get in through the gap where the return is. Can I drain the overflow by removing the drain pipe?

I would think so...just have a bucket ready...pump off of course...:) You can't get to him in the overflow with your hand or net?

It might be prudent to remove some of the water from your sump to make room for the additional water. Are you using socks on your overflows?

I have had this happen to me with a couple of idiot green chromis. I named them dumb and dumber for obvious reasons. I have live rock rubble that sits in the bottom of the overflow that they hide in. They are just stupid enough to go over the water fall but not stupid enough to go down the flex hose when I pull the standpipe out of the bulkhead. Go figure.

This happened to my yellow watchman goby too. I rescued it from the overflow by draining it. Then the next day he went there again. He seems to prefer it there so i didnt attempt to rescue him a second time.

I gave a last shot using a small net before draining the overflow and got the little guy. Hopefully he has learned his lesson :)

You would think... Removing my lineatus and a clown from the overflow on my old tank used to be a weekly event lol. Sometimes I could net them but most of the time I had to partially pull the drain pipe and drop the water in the overflow until there was just and inch or two in it. Then my wife and her skinny arms would come to the rescue and she would grab the fish.

I did pick up some gutter guard and cut a piece to enclose the overflow a little better, but the little buggers would still find their way into there occasionally.
