Evaporation rate

I have a 2 tanks (120 and 57 gallon ) plumbed into a 75 gallon sump that runs at 50 gallons of operating capacity. I just calculated that my evaporation rate is 2.5 gallons a day. Is that correct or should I be looking for leaks? I run my skimmer on the dry side

Any help will be appreciiated

My 180 evaporates about 2 gal. a day, my temp this time of year is about 77 -78.

I lose about 1 1/2 gal a day myself. But my tank is in the basement.

Between the 2 tanks and sump you have a lot of surface area. With more surface area evaporation will be greater. Also this time of year with the heat in your house running evaporation will increase. On my 30g with 15g sump I loose about a gallon a day to evaporation.

I evaporate between 2 - 4 gallons a day depending on certain conditions. That is with a 200, 120, ,100 sump, and 30 fuge

Your numbers sound about right.....no leaks. I actually just noticed this past week or so even higher evaporation loss because of the colder / drier weather. I also run a dehumidifier that pulls even more moisture out of the air. So in the winter I evaporate more water. The one great thing about our aquariums is that we don't need humidifiers in the winter....our houses are nice and moist!

I agree with all above, and your evap rate can and probably will change through out the seasons.

That's funny I didn't even think that could be the cause of my sudden dry throat. I have a 12G nano cube in my room that had the top removed & had an led hanging over it. I recently put the top back on & keep the lid closed and i wake up every morning with a very dry throat(snorer ) now I see why!

Evaporation rate will also change based on if you have your tanks, fuge , sumps covered or not. It will also depend on which lighting you are using.

I top off about 5 gallons a day with LED. I have everything uncovered and have a fuge, sump, circulation tank and frag tank.

In summers I go up to 7 gallon a day.
