Exposing anemone outside of the tank

I have a GBTA that has settled nicely in my 24 Nanocube in a horizontal rock crevice. It's hasn't moved since I got it and I actually like it's current position. My only problem is that the anemone cannot fully expand because there are some branches of rock surrounding the crevice. the anemone is probably 80% expanded. The branches seem brittle enough to break off but I'd have to take the rock out of th tank along with the anemone.

I've heard anemones should not be exposed to air, will this be an issue if I quickly took out the rock and nem for let's say 2min to break off the branches? Has anyone exposed their nem for any period of time?

it wont hurt it,but if your concerned about it take a bowl of tank water and turn the rock so the nem is in it and break off the pieces that way.

If the anemone wants to expand more it will do it on its own. I wouldn't bother it especially if hasn't moved from that spot it must be happy there.

Yeah anems expand due to how they feel and water flow, feeding, lighting, and such. If it doesen't like it there it will move on it's own

It will climb up higher if it isn't able to expand and be happy. That said I've taken nem's out of the water when necessary to get them off of rock and they've always done just fine, even though the chopping, chiseling and hammering.

A trick people use to detach anemones from rocks is to hold them upside down out of the water and spray them with water until the detach. The guide I was reading said the process could take up to 30 minutes, so I think you would be fine. Don't be surprised if you cut the branches off and the anemone moves.

I dont have the guts or time to do it anytime soon, but thats good to know that I can expose the anemone to air..I will definetely be doin gthis procedure in the near future thanks guys

I would just leave as is. If it likes it there then it is happy. I tried a couple times to "accomodate" mine and it would just move. Since I left it alone it has not moved since. Not where I would consider optimum but it doesn't care so I leave it be.

I agree, don't bother her, she will move if she wants. I also decided to "improve" conditions and she went hiding for a month. :'(

Watch episode 43 about anemone. They do recommend to take BTA out of water during acclimation. I used this method. My BTA is doing great.
